William Heinemann Ltd.is a London publisher established in 1890 by William Heinemann. Its first published book was The Bondman by Hall Caine. On Heinemann's death in 1920 a majority stake in the company was purchased by U.S. publisher Doubleday, New York. Since then Heinemann has had a number of corporate owners.
